About California Safe Driver

California Safe Driver administers National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses that may be ordered by the Court or referred by probation or law-enforcement agencies as educational sentencing or diversion programs for infraction violations and criminal traffic offenses.

These programs are designed to address unsafe driving behaviors and reinforce accountability through educational models that are evidence-based and informed by established research and best practices, emphasizing driver attitudes, risk awareness, and decision-making. Program objectives include increased personal responsibility, behavior change, reduced recidivism, and enhanced public safety.

Courses offered include Alive at 25, Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving (ADoD), DDC-4, TDIC, and specialized mini-modules addressing specific traffic-safety issues. Instruction is delivered in a manner consistent with court and probation expectations and solely for educational purposes.

Participation is typically self-funded by the participant.

These National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses are not recognized by the California Department of Motor Vehicles as traffic school and do not provide point reduction. Recognition for insurance premium purposes, if any, is determined solely by the participant's insurance carrier.
